Get off the fence

So here I am starting another blog. I'm a sporadic blogger at the best of times so it seems crazy to start another, but I wanted to have an outlet in which to be more direct in spiritual, theological and heaven-focussed thoughts. With this new blog I'll then have a total of 3: (1) a general blog which in the past was a mix of all sorts of random thoughts, (2) my Poop Engineer blog in which I can focus on work stuff, and now (3) where we can get spiritual man! Hopefully I'll be a little more diligent with my blogging moving forward on all fronts!

Title

So, what's with the title?
Many years ago I became a Christian through the work of a somewhat pushy street evangelist.  I wrote about it in an old blog you can access here. In essence, he pushed me off the fence when I was wavering in my decision to follow Jesus.  I understood the basics of what Christ had done in dying for my sins and I had no intellectual objections to Christianity but yet I needed that "push" to get me off the fence and make a decision. I am forever grateful that he did.
Some time after that I was at an event at Cliff College (it might even have been at their annual festival, I'm getting old and forget!). At that event someone prayed over me and gave me a word from God which said that some day I would be someone who "pushed people off fences". Now that doesn't sound particularly radical except if you knew me back then: I was not the kind of person to push anyone off any fences.  I was pretty shy and hated confrontation.

Content

And so, to the content of this blog. There is nothing more important in this life than considering your eternal future. If the claims of Jesus are true - and I think there's ample evidence that they are - then we need to take seriously all that he said and did. One scripture that keeps coming back to me is this:
As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says,
“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2
My hope and prayer is that God will use this blog to help folks like me, who sat on the fence for too many years, to make the jump and trust in Him.
Now is the time. Now is the day. Get off the fence.

Some good questions

In my last blog I talked about asking good questions in order to understand and go deeper, without bias or prejudice. In this blog I want t...
